“As California goes, so goes the nation.” Just not with regulating Athletic Training.

California remains the only state in the United States that does not require any regulation or licensing for Athletic Trainers to work on the sidelines of a high school field. Many agree when you receive health care you want it to come from an adequately trained and certified, regulated, or licensed medical professional; In California that remains not the case when it comes to who provides care to high school athletes at their athletic events.

Team Up For Sports Safety (TUFSS) held early March 2023, included many individuals and organizations including the Los Angeles Rams, who are leading the charge to ensure that high school athletes have the necessary medical care available to them by licensed Athletic Trainers.

AB 796, introduced by Assembly Member Dr. Akilah Weber (D79) would provide licensure for California Athletic Trainers.
