Research is continuing to look into the issue, but when it comes to football the public is becoming more conscious of concussions than they were a few years ago.
Dr. Cindy Chang is one of the leading primary care sports medicine physicians in the country and she gave a presentation to healthcare providers at Mercy Medical Center in Redding on Friday. Her presentation topic was “Top 10 tips regarding sports-related concussions in kids”.
Chang’s credentials include being the head team physician for 27 sports at U.C. Berkeley for 13 years. She has worked with several US Olympic and Paralympic Teams, and she is the founder of the California Concussion Coalition.
Dr. Chang did her fellowship at Ohio State where her first experience dealing with concussions came with a football player who went on to a long NFL career.
Since the doctor’s time at Ohio recognition of the damage concussions can do has advanced dramatically. When asked about what should be done on the local level, Dr. Chang said that trainers need to be licensed.Watch Interview
